〜にして
Two uses: after a number or stage it means 'only at / not until'; after a noun it links two qualities, 'both A and B'. Literary and formal, rare in casual speech.
N（年齢・段階）+ にして（初めて）／N + にして + N
彼は五十歳にして、初めて絵筆を握った。
かれはごじゅっさいにして、はじめてえふでをにぎった。
It was not until he was fifty that he first picked up a paintbrush.
一流の研究者にして初めて分かる面白さがある。
いちりゅうのけんきゅうしゃにしてはじめてわかるおもしろさがある。
There is an appeal that only a first-rate researcher can appreciate.
彼女は優れた医師にして、優しい母親でもある。
かのじょはすぐれたいしにして、やさしいははおやでもある。
