〜に反して
Says the result went against an expectation, prediction or rule. Formal and mostly written; the noun before it is usually 予想・期待・予報・命令.
N + に反して（名詞修飾は N に反する N）
  1. 予想に反して、試合はあっさり終わった。
    よそうにはんして、しあいはあっさりおわった。
    Contrary to expectations, the match ended quickly.
  2. 親の期待に反して、彼は進学しなかった。
    おやのきたいにはんして、かれはしんがくしなかった。
    Contrary to his parents' hopes, he did not go on to university.
  3. 天気予報に反して、今日はいい天気になった。
    てんきよほうにはんして、きょうはいいてんきになった。
    Contrary to the forecast, today turned out fine.
