〜かと思うと
Two events follow each other almost instantly, usually with surprise or against expectation. Used for events you observe, not for your own plans. Natural in both conversation and writing.
V-た（V-ている）+ かと思うと／かと思ったら
息子は帰ってきたかと思うと、すぐに遊びに出て行った。
むすこはかえってきたかとおもうと、すぐにあそびにでていった。
No sooner had my son come home than he went straight back out to play.
空が暗くなったかと思うと、激しい雨が降り出した。
そらがくらくなったかとおもうと、はげしいあめがふりだした。
Just as the sky darkened, heavy rain began to fall.
さっきまで泣いていたかと思うと、もう笑っている。
さっきまでないていたかとおもうと、もうわらっている。
One moment she was crying, and now she's already laughing.
