Sets up a hypothesis for discussion: supposing that A is the case, then B. Common in reasoning, planning and questions; neutral to slightly formal.
plain + としたら／とすれば／とすると
  1. 明日から一週間休めるとしたら、どこへ行きたいですか。
    あしたからいっしゅうかんやすめるとしたら、どこへいきたいですか。
    Supposing you could take a week off from tomorrow, where would you want to go?
  2. この報告が本当だとすれば、対策を急ぐ必要がある。
    このほうこくがほんとうだとすれば、たいさくをいそぐひつようがある。
    If this report is true, we need to hurry with countermeasures.
