〜ずにすむ

Means you end up not having to do something unpleasant. Neutral register; 〜ないですむ is the more casual spoken form.

V-nai stem + ずにすむ（する → せずにすむ）

保険のおかげで、自分で払わずにすんだ。

ほけんのおかげで、じぶんではらわずにすんだ。

Thanks to the insurance, I got by without paying out of pocket.
事前に連絡したので、待たずにすんだ。

じぜんにれんらくしたので、またずにすんだ。

Because I called ahead, I didn't have to wait.
在宅勤務なら満員電車に乗らずにすむ。

ざいたくきんむならまんいんでんしゃにのらずにすむ。

If I work from home, I get by without riding a packed train.
