〜たものだ
Recalls what someone often used to do in the past, with a nostalgic tone. Typically spoken by an older speaker looking back; not for one-off past events.
V-ta + ものだ（よく〜たものだ）
学生のころはよく徹夜したものだ。
がくせいのころはよくてつやしたものだ。
Back in my student days I used to pull all-nighters a lot.
子供のころ、この川でよく泳いだものだ。
こどものころ、このかわでよくおよいだものだ。
As a child, I used to swim in this river often.
昔は父とよく将棋を指したものだ。
むかしはちちとよくしょうぎをさしたものだ。
I used to play shogi with my father a lot in the old days.
