〜上は

Means 'now that ... , naturally the following must happen'. Introduces a resolve or obligation that follows from a decided fact; formal and written.

V-dict / V-ta + 上は

引き受けた上は、最後まで責任を持ちます。

ひきうけたうえは、さいごまでせきにんをもちます。

Now that I've taken it on, I will see it through responsibly.
試合に出る上は、優勝を目指したい。

しあいにでるうえは、ゆうしょうをめざしたい。

Now that I'm entering the tournament, I want to aim for the title.
事実を知った上は、黙っているわけにはいかない。

じじつをしったうえは、だまっているわけにはいかない。

Now that I know the truth, I can't just keep quiet.
