J21 JLPT N2 grammar — 〜

Read each pattern and its example, then write your own sentence on the line.

Marks a starting point in the past: ever since X happened, a state or tendency has continued unbroken. Slightly formal; common in writing and polite speech, and normally followed by an ongoing situation.
Ever since I changed jobs, I've been thinking about work even on my days off.
Says the second action is impossible or not permitted until the first one is finished. The main clause is negative or expresses difficulty. Fairly formal; frequent in instructions and business speech.
I can't give you an answer unless I check with the manager first.
Do something while a situation has not yet changed: before it gets dark, before you forget. Neutral register, used freely in everyday spoken and written Japanese.
Let's go home before it gets dark.
Stresses that something happened right in the middle of an ongoing activity, almost always as an interruption. Neutral but emphatic; common in both conversation and writing.
My mobile phone rang right in the middle of the meeting.
Marks the exact moment at which something else happens, often an interruption or a timely arrival. Used in speech and writing; ところへ feels slightly more like movement toward the scene.
Just as I was about to go out, the phone rang.
Two events follow each other almost instantly, usually with surprise or against expectation. Used for events you observe, not for your own plans. Natural in both conversation and writing.
No sooner had my son come home than he went straight back out to play.
