J26 JLPT N2 grammar — 〜としても … 〜も同然

Read each pattern and its example, then write your own sentence on the line.

〜としても plain + としても(N・na-adj は「だとしても」)
Even supposing A is true, B still holds. A concessive hypothesis, often paired with たとえ. Neutral register, frequent in argument and discussion.
今から出発したとしても、開演には間に合わない。 Even if we leave now, we won't make it in time for the curtain.
〜ながらも V-stem / i-adj / na-adj / N + ながらも
Concessive 'even though', joining two clauses that clash. More literary than 〜ながら or 〜のに; common in written Japanese and set phrases such as 狭いながらも.
狭いながらも、自分の部屋が持てて嬉しい。 Cramped though it is, I'm happy to have a room of my own.
〜つもりで V-dict / V-た / N + の + つもりで
With the intention of doing something, or acting as if a situation were true when it is not. Everyday register, common in advice and when talking about your own mindset.
貯金するつもりで、毎月一万円ずつ積み立てている。 With the intention of saving, I set aside ten thousand yen every month.
〜かのようだ plain + かのようだ/かのように(N・na-adj は であるかのようだ)
Compares a real situation to something it is not: 'as if'. More literary and vivid than 〜ようだ, often used with まるで, especially in descriptive writing.
彼はまるで何も知らないかのように話した。 He spoke as if he knew nothing at all.
〜ふりをする V-dict / V-た / i-adj / na-adjな / N + の + ふりをする
To pretend to be or do something that is not actually the case. Everyday spoken Japanese, and usually mildly critical of the pretence.
話しかけられたくなくて、寝たふりをした。 I pretended to be asleep because I didn't want to be spoken to.
〜も同然 N / V-た + も同然(だ・の + N)
Says a situation is practically the same as something else, even if not literally so. Mildly emphatic, neutral to colloquial; often appears as も同然の + noun.
準備は終わったも同然だから、あとは当日を待つだけだ。 The preparations are as good as finished, so now we just wait for the day.
