N + に対して. Means 'toward' (the target of an action or attitude), or 'in contrast to' when comparing two things.

  1. お客さんに対して、丁寧に話してください。
    おきゃくさんにたいして、ていねいにはなしてください。
    Please speak politely to customers.
  2. 兄は静かなのに対して、弟はにぎやかだ。
    あにはしずかなのにたいして、おとうとはにぎやかだ。
    In contrast to my quiet older brother, my younger brother is lively.
  3. その質問に対して、彼は何も答えなかった。
    そのしつもんにたいして、かれはなにもこたえなかった。
    He didn't answer that question at all.
