Plain form + んですが. Softly introduces a situation before a request or question ("…, so / and …").

V / A-i plain + んですが; A-na / N + なんですが

道に迷ったんですが、駅はどこですか。

みちにまよったんですが、えきはどこですか。

I'm lost — where is the station?
予約したいんですが、空いていますか。

よやくしたいんですが、あいていますか。

I'd like to make a reservation; do you have space?
来週休みたいんですが、いいですか。

らいしゅうやすみたいんですが、いいですか。

I'd like to take next week off — is that all right?
