The day I changed jobs

Read the passage twice — once for the gist, once slowly — then answer the questions. Every kanji has its reading above it; the words in the box are the ones worth knowing. 434 characters.

In English
I worked for eight years at the company I joined out of university. The pay was not bad and I was lucky in my colleagues. Even so, once I passed thirty I began to wonder whether things could go on like this.
What started it was a remark from a junior colleague. Asked "Why did you choose the job you do?", I could not answer well. I realised that I had joined a company that would have me and done the work I was given, and nothing more.
It took a year to decide to change jobs. My family was against it, and I knew the pay would be lower. But I had noticed something I could not un-notice: that I looked more alive browsing job listings at night than I did sitting in meetings.
My new workplace is small and there is so much to learn that I am worn out every day. Not one task is something I can do without thinking, as before. Still, the single fact that I chose it myself holds me up on the hard days. Whether it was the right choice I do not yet know. I think it will be enough to answer that in ten years.
