The cooking class

Read the passage twice — once for the gist, once slowly — then answer the questions. Every kanji has its reading above it; the words in the box are the ones worth knowing. 268 characters.

In English
Once a month I go to a cooking class at the community centre. About ten people take part, all different ages and jobs. The teacher runs a soba restaurant nearby and always says, "You can decide the seasoning at the end."
Last month we grilled fish. I used too high a flame, so only the outside burned and the inside was not cooked through. The teacher did not get angry; she said, "Try it once more, on a low flame." The second time it came out well and the person next to me praised it.
More than the cooking itself, I think what I enjoy is standing in a kitchen with people I do not know. Talking while your hands are busy, you can speak naturally even with someone you have just met.
