A late train
Read the passage twice — once for the gist, once slowly — then answer the questions. Every kanji has its reading above it; the words in the box are the ones worth knowing. 306 characters.

In English
Yesterday morning my usual train stopped because of an accident. The platform was overflowing with people, and even waiting for the next train it did not look as if I would get on. My meeting was at ten. I thought for a while and decided to go by bus.
Walking to the bus stop I ran into Tanaka from my company. He was stuck too, so we took the bus together. The roads were congested and the bus hardly moved, but the view from the window was different from usual and I rather enjoyed it.
I reached the office five minutes before ten. My department head said, "Thanks to your message I didn't have to change the schedule." If the train stops, get in touch first. I realised that this alone puts the other person at ease.
