In English
In Japan, it is said, there are more pets than children: dogs and cats together number over fifteen million, more than the number of children under fifteen. My house has a cat too. Three years ago, on a rainy day, I found her near the station — still tiny and ill. When I took her to the vet, the doctor said he couldn't say whether she'd make it. But after a month of medicine she was well again. I named her Ame, "rain". Keeping a pet is not only fun. Every day you feed it and clean its litter tray; if it gets ill, you must take it to the vet; travelling is not simple; it costs money. Even so, when I come home tired from work and see Ame waiting in the hall, I forget all of it. Lately, people abandoning pets they can no longer keep has become a problem. A pet is not a toy; it is a life. Before getting one, I think you need to consider carefully whether you can still look after it in ten years, in twenty.
