In English
In my town there is a summer festival at the end of August every year. This year, for the first time, I ended up helping as a member of the organising committee. Preparations begin two months ahead; meetings are every Wednesday evening at the community hall. My job was to make a guide for foreign residents — the date and time, the place, and what to be careful of — in three languages: English, Chinese and Vietnamese. On the day we put up tents and carried chairs from the morning. Towards evening the stalls opened and the smell of fried noodles and shaved ice spread through the whole town. At seven the bon dance began, and strangers joined the circle and danced together. I even met a family who said they had come after reading my guide. Clearing up finished at eleven at night. I was tired, but I want to help again next year.
