L9 JLPT N1 grammar — 〜て(は)かなわない … 〜といい〜といい

Read each pattern and its example, then write your own sentence on the line.

〜て(は)かなわない V-te/i-adj-くて/na-adj・N+で+(は)かなわない
Says a situation is more than the speaker can put up with. Complaining tone, used in spoken and casual written Japanese; often with こう or 毎日 to stress repetition.

〜てやまない 感情動詞のV-te+やまない(願って・祈って・愛して等)
Expresses a feeling the speaker holds sincerely and without end. Used only with emotion verbs (願う, 祈る, 愛する, 期待する); formal written or ceremonial speech.
皆様のご健康を祈ってやみません。 I sincerely pray for everyone's good health.
〜と相まって N+と相まって/N1とN2が相まって
'Combined with X' — two factors work together to produce a stronger effect, usually a good or notable one. Formal written style, common in news and reports.
円安と相まって、輸出は大きく伸びた。 Coupled with the weak yen, exports grew substantially.
〜とあって N/V-plain/i-adj/na-adj(+だ)+とあって
Gives a special, unusual circumstance as the reason for a resulting scene. The result is an observed fact, not the speaker's own action; typical of news writing.
三連休とあって、高速道路は渋滞している。 With it being a three-day weekend, the expressway is jammed.
〜とあれば N/V-plain/i-adj/na-adj+とあれば
'If it is for X / if it is a case of X, then (I will go that far)'. Marks a special condition that justifies unusual effort. Formal, somewhat literary.
子供のためとあれば、どんな苦労もいとわない。 If it's for my child, I don't mind any hardship.
〜といい〜といい N1+といい+N2+といい(評価の文が続く)
Picks out two representative points and evaluates the whole: 'both A and B (are like this)'. Carries the speaker's judgment, praise or criticism; formal-ish but usable in speech.
