〜に先立って

Formal written "prior to," used when something is done in advance of a major event as a preliminary step. More restricted than 前に: the following event must be significant.

大きな行事の前に、準備として何かをすることを表す書き言葉。

Formation: N + に先立って／に先立ち；V-dict + に先立って；N修飾は「に先立つ + N」

  1. 会議に先立って、資料が配られた。

    かいぎにさきだって、しりょうがくばられた。

    Prior to the meeting, the materials were handed out.

  2. 新製品の販売に先立ち、記者会見が開かれた。

    しんせいひんのはんばいにさきだち、きしゃかいけんがひらかれた。

    Ahead of the new product's release, a press conference was held.

  3. 工事を始めるに先立って、住民に説明した。

    こうじをはじめるにさきだって、じゅうみんにせつめいした。
