Long-form description (~100 words)
Japanese-learning materials in English and Mandarin are abundant. Materials in Yorùbá, Bahasa Indonesia, Vietnamese, or Tagalog? Almost nonexistent. Japaneseness fills that gap with free, printable PDF worksheets in every language of the world — starting with three, aiming at 1,000. The site (japaneseness.com) is built on Astro and Cloudflare Pages. Worksheet PDFs come from XeLaTeX templates fed by a master YAML database, with translation drafts via Claude API, reviewed by native speakers. Everything is licensed under CC BY-SA 4.0 so it can be reprinted, remixed, and redistributed forever.
Quotable stats (as of last build)
- 200 worksheet definitions per language
- 800 PDFs in pipeline (4 languages × 200 sheets)
- 50 Tier 1 languages accessible on the site
- 27 languages with hand-translated UI
- 80 N5 kanji with stroke-order SVGs from KanjiVG
- 362 HTML pages
