〜ものだから

Gives a reason as an excuse or explanation, often for something the speaker regrets. Sounds personal and apologetic; spoken, with もんだから as the casual form.

言い訳や弁解の気持ちを込めて理由を述べる表現。

Formation: V / i-adj plain + ものだから；na-adj な + ものだから；N な + ものだから

Example sentences

  1. 電車が遅れたものだから、会議に間に合わなかった。

    でんしゃがおくれたものだから、かいぎにまにあわなかった。

    The train was delayed, so I couldn't get to the meeting on time.

  2. 急いでいたものだから、財布を忘れてしまった。

    いそいでいたものだから、さいふをわすれてしまった。

    I was in such a hurry that I ended up leaving my wallet behind.
