〜ながらも

Concessive 'even though', joining two clauses that clash. More literary than 〜ながら or 〜のに; common in written Japanese and set phrases such as 狭いながらも.

「〜けれども」と逆接を表す、やや文語的な言い方。

Formation: V-stem ／ i-adj ／ na-adj ／ N + ながらも

  1. 狭いながらも、自分の部屋が持てて嬉しい。

    せまいながらも、じぶんのへやがもててうれしい。

    Cramped though it is, I'm happy to have a room of my own.

  2. 彼は新人ながらも、堂々と発表した。

    かれはしんじんながらも、どうどうとはっぴょうした。

    Even though he is new, he gave his presentation with great poise.

  3. 残念に思いながらも、その提案を受け入れた。

    ざんねんにおもいながらも、そのていあんをうけいれた。

    Though I felt it was a shame, I accepted the proposal.
