〜ではあるまいし

Means 'it's not as if ...', giving a reason to criticize or reassure. Carries a scolding or exasperated tone; spoken, and rather blunt with superiors.

「〜ではないのだから」と非難や忠告の理由を示す。

Formation: N + ではあるまいし（じゃあるまいし）／ plain form + の + ではあるまいし

Example sentences

  1. 子供ではあるまいし、そんなことで泣くな。

    こどもではあるまいし、そんなことでなくな。

    You're not a child, so don't cry over something like that.

  2. 初めてではあるまいし、緊張することはない。

    はじめてではあるまいし、きんちょうすることはない。

    It's not as if it's your first time, so there's no need to be nervous.

  3. 神様ではあるまいし、未来など分かるはずがない。
