〜きり

V-た + きり means 'ever since X, (nothing has happened)'. N + きり means 'only, just'. The main clause is often negative.

「〜たきり」は以来何もない、「名詞＋きり」は限定を表す。

Example sentences

  1. 彼とは去年会ったきり、会っていない。

    かれとはきょねんあったきり、あっていない。

    I haven't seen him since we met last year.

  2. 二人きりで話したいことがある。

    ふたりきりではなしたいことがある。

    There's something I want to talk about, just the two of us.

  3. 本を借りたきり、返していない。

    ほんをかりたきり、かえしていない。

    I borrowed the book and still haven't returned it.
