Numbers + counter suffix vary by what you count.

数える物によって助数詞が変わる（人・個・本・枚など）。

Formation: number + counter: 〜人 (people), 〜つ/個 (things), 〜本 (long), 〜枚 (flat)

Example sentences

  1. 学生が 三人 います。

    がくせいが さんにん います。

    There are three students.

  2. りんごを 二つ 買いました。

    りんごを ふたつ かいました。

    I bought two apples.

  3. ペンが 三本、かみが 四まい あります。

    ペンが さんぼん、かみが よんまい あります。

    There are three pens and four sheets of paper.
