Having a kimono or yukata made
着物・浴衣を誂える きもの・ゆかたをあつらえる
Shopping · Craft · High-end
The kimono floors of Mitsukoshi and the old fabric shops of Nihonbashi and Asakusa will make a yukata to your measurements from a bolt you choose in a morning, ready in two to four weeks and shipped, for less than a good suit; a silk kimono is another order of cost and time. Even if you buy nothing, having an obi unrolled for you like a painting is a Tokyo experience.
- How to arrange it
- Allow an hour for measuring and choosing; ask for shipping to your home; yukata are for summer, so order by June.

Where to book it
Asakusa
Midoriya Gofukuten
ミドリ屋呉服店
¥¥¥ · 45 min · English: no
Family-run in Asakusa for over 70 years, this neighborhood gofukuten makes original garments to order, including matched festival happi and kimono sets with a family's own crest or name embroidered in. It is a working local tailor rather than a tourist-facing studio, which is exactly the point.
Nihonbashi
Tsuzureya Nihonbashi
つゞれ屋 日本橋店
¥¥¥¥ · 60 min · English: no
A Nihonbashi and Ginza kimono house rather than a rental counter, Tsuzureya's business is custom-dyed and custom-tailored pieces made to a client's own measurements. A visit here is a genuine order-made process - fabric selection, dyeing choices and tailoring - not a same-day try-on.
