A day with a licensed guide
通訳案内士と過ごす一日 つうやくあんないしとすごすいちにち
Learning · High-end · Book ahead
Japan licenses its guides by national examination, and a good one — an architect, a former chef, an art historian — will build the day around you: the market at seven, a counter lunch you could not have booked, the gallery whose owner they know, and a running explanation of everything you would otherwise have wondered about. For a first day in Tokyo, or a day with a particular interest, it is the single most useful thing to buy.

Japan Guide Association (JGA)
一般社団法人日本観光通訳協会(JGA)
¥¥¥¥ · 480 min · English: yes
Founded in 1940, JGA is the professional body for Japan's nationally licensed guide-interpreters, so booking through it (rather than an app) puts a certified, examined guide in charge of a full day rather than a freelancer of unknown standing.

Tokyo Free Guide
東京フリーガイド
¥ · 240 min · English: yes
A volunteer guide network, not a commercial tour company, where guides donate their time and visitors cover only transport, entrance fees and the guide's own costs. Because routes are built around what a specific visitor wants to see rather than a fixed itinerary, it suits someone who wants a knowledgeable local companion more than a scripted walking tour.
Named operators, each verified against its official site. We list the booking route and whether English is spoken; hours and prices live on the official site. All operators
