A taiko drumming session
和太鼓の体験 わだいこのたいけん
With children · Learning · Rainy day
An hour at a drum the size of a barrel with a teacher who counts in Japanese and expects you to shout: the stance, the stroke, a simple festival rhythm played together at the end loud enough to feel in the chest. Studios in Asakusa and on the city's edge teach groups of up to twenty in English; children are welcome and better at it than adults.

Akihabara & Kanda
TAIKO-LAB Akihabara
太鼓LAB 秋葉原
¥¥ · 60 min · English: yes
The Akihabara branch of Japan's largest taiko school network offers the same visitor-focused one-hour drumming program as the Aoyama studio, convenient for anyone based around Akihabara or Kanda. Lessons are taught by the school's regular instructors in a proper studio, not a souvenir-shop add-on.
Aoyama & Omotesando
TAIKO-LAB Aoyama
太鼓LAB 青山
¥¥ · 60 min · English: yes
Part of Japan's largest dedicated taiko drumming school network, this Aoyama studio runs a purpose-built one-hour program for visitors with English-language booking, rather than a one-off tourist demo — instructors are the same teachers who train the school's regular students.
Asakusa
Taiko Center Asakusa Studio
太鼓センター 浅草スタジオ
¥¥ · 60 min · English: yes
Taiko Center is a dedicated taiko drumming school with a studio steps from Sensoji, run by working performers rather than a one-off tourist attraction. The English-language trial-lesson program takes total beginners from basic strokes to playing a short piece together.
