〜がてら

Doing B while taking the chance offered by A; the two happen at once. Slightly formal but used in everyday speech about outings.

ＡのついでにＢもするという表現。

Formation: V-masu stem + がてら ／ N（動作性）+ がてら

Example sentences

  1. 散歩がてら、駅前の書店に寄った。

    さんぽがてら、えきまえのしょてんによった。

    On my walk, I stopped by the bookshop in front of the station.

  2. 買い物がてら、図書館で本を返してきた。

    かいものがてら、としょかんでほんをかえしてきた。

    While out shopping, I returned my books to the library.

  3. 気分転換がてら、近くの公園まで歩いた。

    きぶんてんかんがてら、ちかくのこうえんまであるいた。

    I walked to a nearby park, partly for a change of pace.
