States that the speaker feels an emotion to the utmost degree. Formal-ish written or careful speech; only with emotion adjectives.

感情の程度が最高であることを表す表現。

Formation: i-adj + 限りだ ／ na-adj + な + 限りだ

Example sentences

  1. 旧友に再会できて、嬉しい限りだ。

    きゅうゆうにさいかいできて、うれしいかぎりだ。

    I couldn't be happier to have met my old friend again.

  2. 同期が次々と辞めていくのは寂しい限りだ。

    どうきがつぎつぎとやめていくのはさびしいかぎりだ。

    It is terribly sad that my peers are quitting one after another.
