〜に越したことはない

'Nothing beats X / it's best if X' — states a commonsense preference, often as friendly advice. Common in both speech and writing.

「Xするのが一番よい」という常識的な判断を述べる表現。

Formation: V-dict／V-nai／i-adj／na-adj（な・である）／N + に越したことはない

Example sentences

  1. 準備は早いに越したことはない。

    じゅんびははやいにこしたことはない。

    There's nothing better than preparing early.

  2. 用心するに越したことはない。

    ようじんするにこしたことはない。

    You can't go wrong being careful.

  3. 家賃は安いに越したことはないが、通勤も大事だ。

    やちんはやすいにこしたことはないが、つうきんもだいじだ。

    Cheaper rent is best of course, but the commute matters too.
