〜っぱなし

Added to a verb stem, it means "left in that state" or "kept doing without a break." Often criticizes neglect; colloquial in tone.

「〜たまま」「〜し続ける」の意。放置を責める場合が多い。

Formation: V-masu stem + っぱなし（例：つけっぱなし、立ちっぱなし）

Example sentences

  1. 電気をつけっぱなしで出かけてしまった。

    でんきをつけっぱなしででかけてしまった。

    I went out and left the lights on.

  2. 電車が満員で一時間立ちっぱなしだった。

    でんしゃがまんいんでいちじかんたちっぱなしだった。
