〜以上は

"Now that / since," presenting a fact from which an obligation, determination or judgment naturally follows. Formal; the main clause carries なければならない, べきだ, つもりだ and the like.

前提となる事実を示し、後に当然の義務・決意を述べる硬い表現。

Formation: V／i-adj 普通形 + 以上（は）；na-adj である + 以上；N である + 以上

Example sentences

  1. 引き受けた以上は、最後までやります。

    ひきうけたいじょうは、さいごまでやります。

    Now that I have taken it on, I will see it through to the end.

  2. 学生である以上、勉強するのは当然だ。

    がくせいであるいじょう、べんきょうするのはとうぜんだ。

    As long as you are a student, studying is only natural.

  3. 約束した以上は、守らなければならない。

    やくそくしたいじょうは、まもらなければならない。

    Since you made a promise, you have to keep it.
