An ikebana lesson
生け花の稽古 いけばなのけいこ
Craft · Quiet · Learning · Book ahead
Ninety minutes with a teacher of one of the schools — Ikenobo, Sogetsu, Ohara — arranging three branches and two flowers in a vessel until the space between them is right. The Sogetsu headquarters in Aoyama, in Kenzo Tange's building with Noguchi's stone garden, runs sessions in English; small studios in Kagurazaka and Nihonbashi do the same in a tatami room.
- How to arrange it
- Book a week ahead; the arrangement stays behind, but the teacher will photograph it for you.

Atelier Soka Ikebana
アトリエ草花 いけばな教室

Run by the artist Mika Otani entirely in English across her Omotesando and Roppongi studios, a more intimate, artist-led alternative to an institutional school, framed as an art form rather than a decorative craft.

Sogetsu School headquarters — lessons for visitors
草月会館 いけばな体験レッスン
¥¥¥¥ · 90 min · English: yes
This is Sogetsu's own headquarters — the school that took ikebana out of the alcove — in Kenzo Tange's building with Isamu Noguchi's stone garden, so a lesson comes from the source. Sessions are built around the visitor, with a master instructor demonstrating before guiding your own arrangement.
