Kintsugi — mending with gold
金継ぎ きんつぎ
Craft · Quiet · Rainy day · Book ahead · High-end
The repair of a broken bowl with lacquer and gold, so that the crack becomes the most beautiful line on it. A two-hour class uses a modern fast-setting method (real urushi takes months): you join the pieces, fill the seam, dust it with gold and take the bowl home. Studios in Aoyama, Nihonbashi and Kagurazaka teach in English and supply the broken bowl, or you bring your own.
- How to arrange it
- Book two weeks ahead; classes are four to six people; a broken piece of your own is welcome if it is ceramic.

TNCA Kintsugi Studio
TNCA 金継ぎ教室

Taught in English with real gold and natural lacquer rather than an epoxy shortcut, and finished the same day thanks to the studio's accelerated technique — for visitors who want authentic materials without days to spare.
Nihonbashi
Utsuwa Nihonbashi Yuto (Mutoh)
器 日本橋夢東

Unlike most single-session tasters, this Nihonbashi studio offers a genuine multi-session lacquer kintsugi course alongside a one-day option, plus maki-e, gold-leaf and cloisonné classes — for visitors staying long enough to do the real, slower repair.
