A guided food tour at night
ガイド付きの夜の食べ歩き がいどつきのよるのたべあるき
Food · Late night · Local life · Book ahead
Three hours, five or six stops, a guide who orders in Japanese and explains what you are eating: yakitori under the tracks, a standing bar, oden, a sake shop, a ramen counter to finish. The good operators keep groups under eight and go to places that have no English menu and would not otherwise let you in. Shinjuku, Shibuya and Ebisu are the usual routes; ask for the one that avoids the tourist alleys.

Ninja Food Tours
忍者フードツアーズ
¥¥¥ · 210 min · English: yes
Run out of a Shinjuku sake bar its founder still operates, so the izakaya-hopping route reflects an owner's own regular haunts rather than a fixed itinerary licensed to guides. The format moves between several small standing or counter bars over an evening rather than one set-menu dinner.
