Noh, at the National Noh Theatre or a school's stage
能——国立能楽堂か流派の舞台で のうこくりつのうがくどうかりゅうはのぶたいで
Art · History · Quiet · Book ahead
Six hundred years old and slower than anything else on a stage: masked actors, a chorus, a flute and three drums, a play that takes ninety minutes to tell what a haiku tells in seventeen syllables. The National Noh Theatre in Sendagaya has English subtitles on seat-back screens and monthly beginners' programmes; the Kanze and Hosho schools' own stages, and the Noh theatre in the basement of Ginza Six, hold performances most weeks.

Operated jointly by the Kanze Noh school and the Kanze Foundation, this theatre relocated the historic Kanze stage into the basement of GINZA SIX, putting a full noh program steps from the Ginza shopping district. It is the main Tokyo stage of the Kanze school, one of the five great noh schools.

National Noh Theatre
国立能楽堂
¥¥ · 120 min · English: yes
Run by the Japan Arts Council, this is the national stage for noh and kyogen, built with a proper hashigakari bridge and pine-backed stage rather than a converted hall. English-language ticketing and program notes make it the most accessible serious noh venue for visitors near the Harajuku/Meiji area.
