A tea ceremony, properly
本式の茶の湯 ほんしきのちゃのゆ
High-end · Quiet · Craft · Book ahead
Forty minutes in a tatami room with a host who whisks matcha in front of you, a sweet served first, and the small choreography — how to turn the bowl, when to bow — explained in English as it happens. The point is not the tea; it is the attention paid to one bowl, one flower and one guest. The best sessions are in real tea rooms in gardens (Hama-rikyu, the Nezu Museum, the Suntory Museum's room, Happo-en), with a group of no more than six.

Where to book it
Asakusa
Chazen Tea Ceremony Asakusa
茶禅 浅草
¥¥ · 45 min · English: yes
The sister room to Chazen Ginza, a few minutes from Sensoji, so it pairs naturally with the temple. The same five-step format is used, and optional flower-arranging or origami add-ons let a couple stretch the visit.
Ginza
Chazen Tea Ceremony Ginza
茶禅 銀座
¥¥ · 45 min · English: yes
A genuine tatami tea room inside a Ginza building beside the Kabukiza, run as a dedicated visitor-facing tea school rather than a hotel add-on. The format walks guests from a short history to a real demonstration to whisking matcha themselves, which gives first-timers something to do with their hands.
