Daikanyama T-Site

代官山 蔦屋書店 だいかんやまつたやしょてん

Three pavilions of books, a lounge that serves cocktails among rare magazines, and a garden of small shops — the bookshop as a place to spend a day.

Opened in 2011 in a lattice of white T-shaped tiles by Klein Dytham, T-Site made Daikanyama a destination and rewrote the idea of the bookshop: three linked buildings of art, travel, design, food and Japanese literature, with a specialist "concierge" on each floor, a film and music library, a stationery room, and the Anjin lounge upstairs, where you drink coffee or whisky surrounded by thirty thousand back issues of magazines. Around it a garden village of a bicycle shop, a camera shop, a pet salon and restaurants. It is open until late and it is where Daikanyama meets on a Saturday.
