Tomigaya and Kamiyamacho
富ヶ谷と神山町 とみがやとかみやまちょう
The quiet hill north of Shibuya — bakeries, natural wine, a bookshop-bar, and the streets where the city's creative people live.
For a second visitLocal life · Quiet · Food · Walkable
Ten minutes uphill from the crossing, past the NHK broadcasting centre, Shibuya becomes a residential village of two-storey houses and small perfect shops: Fuglen, the Norwegian coffee bar that started Tokyo's Scandinavian coffee habit; Shibuya Publishing & Booksellers, a bookshop with an editorial office at the back; Ahiru Store, the natural-wine bar that is the reason people learned the word; a bakery with a queue at seven; Camelback's sandwiches eaten on the kerb. Nothing here is a sight. It is the neighbourhood you would move to.
Don't miss
- Morning coffee at Fuglen, on the bench outside, watching the neighbourhood go to work
- A glass of natural wine at a counter that opens at six and fills by seven
- Yoyogi-Hachiman shrine on its wooded hill at the end of the street
- Tip
- Walk here from Meiji Shrine through Yoyogi Park's west gate — it is fifteen minutes and downhill.
