Takeshita Street and Cat Street
竹下通りとキャットストリート たけしたどおりときゃっとすとりーと
The loudest lane in Japan and, one block behind it, the quiet one where the fashion actually happens.
EssentialShopping · Modern · Photogenic · Walkable · Local life
Takeshita Street is four hundred metres of crêpe stands, rainbow candy floss, purikura photo booths, costume shops and schoolgirls — the teenage Tokyo that the world's magazines photograph, and worth ten minutes at any age. Then take the parallel lane: Cat Street, the old course of a covered river, which winds from Harajuku to Shibuya past vintage shops, skate brands, sneaker stores with queues, and the small designers who will be in Omotesando's flagships in ten years. The alleys off it — Ura-Harajuku — are where Tokyo street style is made, on Saturday afternoons, in public.
