The Tsukiji-to-Ginza walk
築地から銀座へ歩く つきじからぎんざへあるく
Market breakfast, the Indian-style temple, the shogun's garden, and Ginza opening at eleven — the classic Tokyo morning in two kilometres.
Worth itWalkable · Early morning · Food · Nature · History
The best-designed morning in Tokyo needs no transport. Breakfast in the outer market at seven; Tsukiji Hongwanji next door at eight, when the organ may be practising; south along the old market's edge to Hama-rikyu Gardens as they open at nine, for matcha on the island; then north through Shiodome's towers to Ginza, arriving as the shops raise their shutters at eleven. Two kilometres, four hours, and every one of the city's layers — Edo, Meiji, postwar, now — in order. This is the route the site's one-day itineraries build on.
