Ebisu Garden Place and the Ebisu restaurant streets
恵比寿ガーデンプレイスと恵比寿の飲食店街 えびすがーでんぷれいすとえびすのいんしょくてんがい
A district named after a beer, with the brewery museum, a photography museum, and the densest streets of small good restaurants in Tokyo.
Worth itFood · Art · Late night · Local life · High-end
Ebisu was the Yebisu beer brewery's railway halt, and the brewery site is now Garden Place: a plaza, a French château copied for a restaurant, the Museum of Yebisu Beer with a tasting salon, and the Tokyo Photographic Art Museum, the country's principal photography museum with three galleries and a good bookshop. But the reason Tokyoites come to Ebisu is the streets on the other side of the station — Ebisu-Nishi and the lanes toward Daikanyama — where the density of small restaurants, izakaya, natural-wine bars and standing bars is higher than anywhere else and the quality is set by a clientele that eats out four nights a week.
Don't miss
- The photography museum, one exhibition at a time, then the bookshop
- A tasting flight at the beer museum, with the story of the 1890 brewery
- An evening of three counters in Ebisu-Nishi — a standing bar, a yakitori, a wine bar
- Tip
- Restaurants here book out; for a weeknight, reserve two or three days ahead, or go at six to a standing bar.
- Best time
- Weekday evening.
